Steam Photo Charter

Join the Valley Railroad Company in Essex, CT, for two days of steam photo charters on October 8-9, 2024, hosted by Dak Dillon Photography. Capture the vibrant fall colors and historic steam trains, pulled by Valley Railroad 40 and 3025. Tuesday features a freight train from Old Saybrook to Goodspeed Station, with photo opportunities from sunrise to sunset and a night session at Essex Station. Wednesday offers a passenger train along the same route, starting early and concluding in the late afternoon. Single day tickets are available to accommodate flexible schedules.

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad will operate a charter photo passenger train on October 9, 2024. The train will be pulled by steam locomotive No. 18, a Baldwin 2-8-2 built in 1914, or by V&T No. 29 if No. 18 is unavailable. The day begins with boarding in Virginia City for a 16-mile journey to Eastgate Carson City Station, where the locomotive will take water and run around the train. The return trip to Virginia City will include approximately 15 photo stops and run-bys, ending with a workshop visit in Virginia City.

Join the editors of Trains Magazine for a two-day steam photo charter on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, October 18-19, 2024. The trip includes multiple photo stops each day, with a night photo session in Silverton, weather permitting. The train features a K-28 steam locomotive, five freight cars, three passenger coaches, and a caboose. Box lunches are included both days, and guests may bring their own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.

Lerro Photography and David Williams will host a 5-day steam charter event at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in October 2024. This exclusive photo tour, from October 21-25, features various historic steam locomotives pulling mixed freight and passenger consists through diverse landscapes. The event covers routes from Antonito, CO, to Osier, and Chama, NM, to Cumbres Pass, with multiple photo runbys each day. The charter includes dawn-to-dusk photo opportunities, ensuring optimal lighting for photography enthusiasts.

On October 26, Rio Grande 2-8-2 K-27 #463 will pull a freight train from Chama to Osier and back, with K-36 #487 substituting if snow is present. On October 27, D&RG 4-6-0 #168 and D&RG 2-8-0 #315 will pull a mixed consist from Antonito to Osier and back. The event includes dawn-to-dusk photo opportunities.

A special photo shoot with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe #2926, the largest operable 4-8-4 locomotive in the world, will take place on October 28, 2024, in Albuquerque, NM. Restored by the New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society, this event offers a rare opportunity to photograph the locomotive fired up and performing runbys in a local rail yard. Photographers can capture the action from sunrise to sunset, with special portrait setups and night sessions with provided lighting.
